Welcome to the Cloud Systems Research Group in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We use the latest in satellite, ground-based, and airborne platforms to study the dynamics, microphysics, and climatic impacts of precipitating cloud systems over their life cycle.

We analyze large amounts of climate and satellite data to perform cloud physics and precipitation studies in both the Tropics and Midlatitudes in order to understand their characteristics and implications on many scales, as well as examine detailed field campaign and routine meteorological observations on finer scales to take advantage of the benefits of continued and/or in situ measurements in understanding cloud physics in that region or to validate satellite measurements. Our scales of interest range from the climatic implications of the microphysical properties of clouds to weather systems on synoptic scales.

Feel free to examine the links above to find out more about our research.
