About Me
Ever since I can remember, I have always had an intense curiosity for the weather. I believe that my upbringing in Upstate New York helped to enhance this interest due to the often extreme and changing (or what most people call "bad") weather experienced there. My most vivid weather memories include the Blizzard of '85 in Buffalo (where snowdrifts were above roof level of our house), the '93 Superstorm (where I measured 40" of snow at our house outside Binghamton), the 11" of lake-effect snow we received on the SUNY Oswego campus in 1 hour on 11 December 1995 (accompanied by frequent lightning), and getting snowed in for a week during the 2003 Fort Collins Blizzard (28" of snow). We don't get that much snow here in C-U, but the severe weather we get is a good substitute for our non-snowy winters.
While my oldest love is the weather, these days outside of work you'll find me enjoying parenthood of our two boys with my wife Anna. We also enjoy hiking, biking, and spend a lot of time renovating our house and gardening. When we get away from C-U, you'll probably find us someplace in the mountains getting lost, skiing, or mountain biking.
I joined the faculty at UIUC in 2006 and am excited to be a part of our department and Illinois. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our group or department's teaching or research. You can also check out my Facebook profile.
Cheers,
-Steve
