So far 2007 is off to an ominous start with 9 killer tornadoes through March 1 '07. With 41 tornado related fatalities this year, this is the deadliest start since back in '98 (from a single outbreak in FL on Feb. 22). That year proved particularly deadly, with 132 tornado fatalities. Hopefully this season won't parallel numbers of that magnitude. There seems to be little relation between early season tornado frequency and subsequent activity. Last season saw a slow start but an anomalous jump in March and April (click on image at right).
