Donna Charlevoix joined the Department of Atmospheric Sciences faculty in 1997. She teaches undergraduate courses in atmospheric sciences and graduate courses on college teaching and science in higher education. She is the Director of Introductory Courses and supervises graduate Teaching Assistants. Recent research interests include teaching and learning of science education in higher education including the role of blended and online learning, gender issues in science and the role of social capital in facilitating success, and the development of cutting-edge interdisciplinary programs to advance environmental education. She is a recipient of multiple teaching awards at UIUC and has been repeatedly named to the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent. She serves on numerous administrative Boards at UIUC and is actively involved in many teaching initiatives including the LAS College Teaching Academy, international SoTL activities. She is past-Chair of the Board of Higher Education of the American Meteorological Society and co-chairs the AMS Education Symposium. She also co-authored a nationally recognized and adopted undergraduate textbook Severe and Hazardous Weather (Kendall/Hunt, 2002) used by over 100 universities in the U.S. and abroad.
