Welcome.  I teach and carry out research in the Atmospheric Sciences Dept. Much of my work involves numerical modeling, in collaboration with UIUC faculty/staff (Rauber, McFarquhar, Wilhelmson) and specialists at NCSA (Alameda, Rossi).  My interests include prediction of mid-latitude cyclones, tropical cyclone forecast uncertainty, and thunderstorms - how their development and severity is influenced by cell interaction, forcing, and microphysical cooling. I also run the department's real-time prediction effort.  I participate in field research, e.g. planning NASA ER-2 missions during CLASIC (2007).
