Curriculum Vitae

  • M.S. Atmospheric Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1990
  • B.S. Chemistry, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1988
My research has covered many disparate aspects of climate science. I was involved with a project to monitor El Nino that is still updated monthly (http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/people/klaus.wolter/MEI/). I also worked with upper ocean temperature and salinity as well as air-sea interaction on scales ranging from weekly to seasonally to interannually. More recently, I have been involved in studies of the Arctic sea ice, examining both the historical record and projections
of ice in the 21st century. I have also been involved with cloud microphysics research and with the study of extreme events. My interests going forward include continued research into Arctic sea ice, extreme events in both the Arctic and midlatitudes, and energy issues such as conservation and alternative fuels.
