—Tenure-Track Faculty Search—
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences within the School of Earth, Society, and Environment at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is a state-funded nine-month academic appointment beginning August 16, 2009. Candidates with expertise in dynamic meteorology, mesoscale, tropical or general circulation dynamics will be given primary consideration. Candidates with exceptional strengths in other related research areas will also be considered. The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to the teaching of dynamics and other courses at both the graduate level and undergraduate level (in the recently developed undergraduate programs in atmospheric and Earth-system science), to develop an active externally funded research program, to supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and to provide service to the university and professional organizations.
The Department currently comprises 10 faculty, 4 emeritus faculty, 14 affiliated and adjunct faculty, 2 instructors, 15 research scientists, and 44 graduate students. The members of the Department work in a broad range of research areas. Opportunities are available for collaborations with departments across the university, with linkages already existing with the Departments of Geography and Geology within the School of Earth, Society, and Environment, the Illinois State Water Survey, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and many others.
