Ph.D. stage I
A major component of Stage I is an evaluation of the student. This evaluation is required by the
University within the first two years after a student enters the Graduate College and in the
Department of Atmospheric Sciences takes place before a student can enter Stage II of the
doctoral degree program. In the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, the evaluation takes the
form of a Qualifying Examination. All candidates for the Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, even
potential ones pursuing an M.S. degree, must pass a qualifying examination.
